Develop Hands-On HVAC/R Installation and Control Skills
HVAC/R Installation and Controls Learning Systems help learners develop the mechanical and electrical skills required to install, connect, operate, test, and troubleshoot residential and light-commercial HVAC/R equipment.
Learners work with copper tubing, refrigerant lines, electrical schematics, motors, contactors, pressure switches, thermostats, temperature controllers, and other industry-standard components while completing guided hands-on activities.
Connect Mechanical Installation with Electrical Controls
Amatrol’s installation and controls systems help learners understand how mechanical refrigeration circuits and electrical control systems work together. Training can progress from preparing and joining copper tubing to connecting, testing, and troubleshooting complete HVAC/R control circuits.
Mechanical Installation
Measure, cut, bend, flare, swage, route, support, join, insulate, and test the copper tubing used in HVAC/R refrigerant circuits.
Electrical Controls
Connect and operate motors, contactors, pressure switches, thermostats, temperature controllers, protective devices, and defrost controls.
Testing and Troubleshooting
Interpret schematics, inspect installations, take electrical measurements, leak-test refrigeration circuits, and isolate control-system faults.

- Connecting start and run capacitors
- Testing pressure switches and temperature controllers
- Programming digital thermostats
- Connecting air-conditioning and heat-pump control circuits
- Programming and testing defrost controllers
- Taking measurements at protected electrical test points
- Diagnosing HVAC/R control-circuit faults
The Combined Refrigeration Installation Learning System focuses on the physical assembly of residential and light-commercial refrigerant circuits. Learners practice tubing preparation, line routing, joining, insulation, and leak testing using a mobile, double-sided workstation.
The HVAC Controls Learning System extends that training into the electrical circuits used with compressors, fans, blowers, thermostats, pressure switches, heat pumps, refrigeration equipment, and defrost systems.
Together, the systems help learners understand both sides of HVAC/R installation: assembling the mechanical system and connecting the controls that allow it to operate safely and effectively.
These systems are designed primarily for high school HVAC/R and CTE programs, technical schools, community colleges, apprenticeship programs, workforce-development organizations, and industrial or facilities-maintenance training centers.
Activities involving electrical circuits, refrigerants, soldering, brazing, and oxyacetylene equipment require appropriate instructor supervision, personal protective equipment, ventilation, and compliance with applicable safety and certification requirements.
