PIC Embedded solution
The PIC Embedded Solution (BL8624) from Matrix TSL is a comprehensive embedded systems training platform designed to teach microcontroller programming, electronics, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. Built around a PIC-compatible microcontroller architecture, this modular solution allows students to progress from fundamental programming concepts through advanced embedded applications using industry-relevant hardware and software tools.
The latest generation of EBlocks hardware combines powerful processing capabilities with an intuitive learning environment. Students can develop and test applications using a built-in color touchscreen display, integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communications, and SD card storage. The system supports programming in Flowcode, C, or Assembly language, making it suitable for introductory courses as well as advanced embedded systems instruction.
Designed specifically for education, the EBlocks platform simplifies hardware integration through Auto ID technology. When compatible expansion boards or sensors are connected, Flowcode automatically identifies and configures the hardware, eliminating wiring confusion and reducing setup time. With access to dozens of expansion modules and thousands of additional peripherals through Grove and MikroBUS interfaces, learners can explore a wide range of real-world embedded applications.

The PIC Embedded Solution provides a structured pathway for learning embedded systems development. Students begin with foundational programming concepts and progress toward advanced applications involving communications, data acquisition, control systems, and Internet-enabled devices.
The PIC architecture is particularly well suited for education, allowing learners to gain a deeper understanding of binary operations, memory management, port architecture, and low-level microcontroller functions. Remappable communication and PWM pins simplify peripheral integration while reinforcing key engineering concepts.
The EBlocks platform supports a large ecosystem of expansion boards, sensors, and peripheral devices commonly used in electronic design and embedded applications. Students can build increasingly complex projects by connecting hardware modules without extensive wiring or configuration.
Additional Grove and MikroBUS interface boards provide access to thousands of commercially available sensors, actuators, displays, and communication modules, enabling instructors to customize training programs for a wide range of engineering and technology courses.
Flowcode integration streamlines the development process by combining graphical programming tools with powerful debugging and simulation capabilities. Auto ID technology automatically detects connected hardware and configures the development environment accordingly, reducing setup time and allowing students to focus on learning embedded systems concepts.
This approach helps minimize common hardware configuration errors while providing a seamless transition from graphical programming to traditional C and Assembly language development.
Organizations currently using EBlocks 2 hardware can upgrade to the latest EBlocks 3 platform while continuing to use existing downstream boards. By purchasing a new upstream board, institutions can gain access to enhanced performance, modern communications capabilities, and new software features while protecting their existing investment.
For programs seeking additional project-based learning opportunities, the Applied Engineering Expansion Pack (BL6932) can be added to further extend the capabilities of the training system.
