DAC Worldwide’s Variable Area Flow Meter Dissectible (272-718), also known as a rotameter, allows learners to closely inspect a common PVC and acrylic liquid flow meter and better understand its construction, operating principles, applications, and maintenance requirements.
A variable area flow meter uses a float inside a vertically mounted, tapered tube. As fluid flows upward through the tube, the float rises until the upward force of the flowing fluid balances the float’s weight. The float’s position corresponds with the flow rate shown on the tube’s calibrated scale.
Rotameters are widely used because of their simple construction, direct-reading capability, and limited maintenance requirements. Operators and technicians should understand how improper installation, contamination, deposits, damaged components, or changes in process conditions can affect instrument accuracy and reliability.
The dissectible is mounted on a threaded steel pipe stanchion and prepared for disassembly using basic mechanical tools. This allows learners to closely examine the float, tapered tube, scale, seals, fittings, housing, and other components while visualizing common inspection and maintenance procedures.
The transparent tube keeps the float and internal flow path visible, helping learners understand the relationship between fluid flow, float position, and the instrument’s calibrated scale.
The component is mounted on a modular, 13-gauge, formed-steel, powder-coated baseplate with a steel pipe support stanchion. It can be removed for closer examination or mounted on compatible DAC Worldwide benches, displays, workstations, and storage products.
