What is the TWC?

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) identifies high-growth, high-demand, and emerging occupations critical to state and local economies. These “Target Occupations” guide workforce customers into aptitude-appropriate and economically relevant occupational training.

About the JET Grant Program

The JET program provides grants to eligible educational institutions to defray the start-up costs associated with developing career and technical education programs. JET grants provide potential economic returns through:

  • Supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations
  • Offering new or expanded dual credit career and technical educational opportunities in public high schools

Who is eligible?

  • Public community, state or technical colleges
  • Independent school districts (ISD) entered into a partnership with a public community, state or technical college
  • Windham School District
  • Open-enrollment charter schools

Solving The Process Technologies Skills-Gap In Texas’s Upper Panhandle

Companies in Texas’s upper panhandle are in dire need to fill a skills gap and train employees in various disciplines, especially process technologies and instrumentation due to the strong presence of refineries. A local institution, Frank Phillips College of Borger, Texas, applied for and received a JET grant to purchase equipment for their Career and Technical Education Program, including a Process Technology program.
