Virtual Oil & Gas Production Training
Prepare Energy Technicians for the Field with XALTER
XALTER Immersive Energy Training gives learners access to realistic virtual energy facilities where they can explore equipment, understand process flow, practice operations and maintenance procedures, and reinforce critical safety skills before entering the field.
Designed for technical education, workforce development and industry training, XALTER uses extended reality (XR) to recreate complex operating environments that can be difficult or impractical to access for training. Learners can move throughout a virtual site, interact with equipment and develop an understanding of how individual components and systems work together as part of a complete operation.
By combining site-level orientation with system-specific training, XALTER helps bridge the gap between classroom knowledge, hands-on technical training and real-world field experience.
Bring the Energy Jobsite into the Learning Environment
Traditional technical training can teach learners how individual pumps, valves, compressors, instruments and controls operate. XALTER adds another layer by placing those technologies within the context of a realistic operating facility.
Learners can explore virtual sites, identify equipment, visualize system and product flow, interact with components and practice procedures without the safety, travel and operational limitations associated with training at an active energy facility.
Upstream Gas Production Virtual Site
XALTER's Upstream Gas Production Site provides an immersive representation of a natural gas production facility. Learners can explore the complete production environment while developing an understanding of the equipment, processes and safety practices involved in moving natural gas from the wellhead through the production process.
The virtual environment allows learners to move beyond memorizing individual components and begin understanding how systems interact as part of the complete production process.
Training Activities Include
- Exploring a realistic upstream gas production environment
- Identifying industrial equipment and components
- Understanding system and product flow
- Visualizing equipment and system relationships
- Interacting with valves and other virtual components
- Practicing operations and maintenance procedures
- Reinforcing PPE and jobsite safety requirements
- Applying lockout/tagout and energy-isolation concepts
- Recognizing line-of-fire and other workplace hazards
- Assessing learner knowledge and understanding
System-Level Energy Training
In addition to site-level training, XALTER provides focused modules that allow learners to explore individual systems and equipment in greater detail. This gives instructors the flexibility to introduce the complete production environment and then progress into specific systems, procedures and job responsibilities.
Wellhead
Explore wellhead equipment and components while developing an understanding of their function within upstream gas production.
Pig Send
Learn the equipment, components and procedures associated with pigging operations and pipeline maintenance.
Gas Production Unit
Explore the equipment and processes involved in preparing produced natural gas for downstream transportation.
Compression Skid
Develop familiarity with gas compression equipment, system components and operating concepts within the context of the production site.
Conditioning Skid
Explore equipment and processes used to condition natural gas as part of the production process.
Diesel Engine Training
Develop equipment knowledge and maintenance skills using immersive training focused on industrial diesel engine systems.
Develop Operations, Maintenance & Safety Skills
XALTER training can support multiple stages of workforce development, from initial site orientation and equipment identification through operations, maintenance and applied safety procedures.
- Core Competencies: Learn facility layouts, equipment, components, terminology and system relationships.
- Operations: Understand workflows and practice procedures associated with operating energy systems.
- Maintenance: Explore equipment and reinforce standardized maintenance processes.
- Safety: Practice hazard recognition, PPE, lockout/tagout, energy isolation, line-of-fire awareness and other critical safety concepts.
Practice Without the Risks of an Active Jobsite
Providing students with access to active energy facilities can present significant logistical and safety challenges. Travel, site availability, production schedules and hazardous operating conditions can limit opportunities for learners to gain meaningful exposure to real-world environments.
XALTER allows learners to repeatedly explore and practice within a virtual facility. Procedures can be experienced consistently across classes, locations and learners while instructors maintain control over the training environment.
Connect Hands-On Training to Real-World Applications
XALTER can complement hands-on technical training in mechanical systems, electrical systems, industrial maintenance, process control, instrumentation, pumps, compressors, valves and industrial safety.
Students can first learn the fundamentals and develop skills using physical training equipment, then use XALTER to see how those technologies come together within a complete energy production environment.
This creates a progression from technical fundamentals to hands-on skills to system-level understanding and field readiness.
