Stokes GiGi Humanoid Robot
Teach Humanoid Robotics, AI, Programming & Manipulation with GiGi
The Stokes GiGi Humanoid Robotics & AI Education System gives students access to an advanced humanoid robotics platform for exploring programming, artificial intelligence, motion control, machine perception, manipulation, and human-centered robotics.
GiGi is the Stokes Robotics USA-version humanoid platform based on Unitree G1 technology. Education configurations are available with different levels of computing, joint control, and dexterous manipulation capabilities to support programs ranging from robotics instruction to advanced AI and research.
Students can move beyond mobile robotics to investigate how a humanoid system perceives its environment, coordinates complex movement, interacts with objects, and integrates software, sensors, and mechanical systems into a complete robotic platform.
How Can Students Use GiGi?
GiGi gives students a platform for exploring the challenges of programming and controlling a human-shaped robot. Programs can use GiGi for robotics, computer science, artificial intelligence, engineering, machine perception, manipulation, and advanced application-based projects.
Humanoid Robotics
Explore coordinated movement, balance, joint control, and the challenges of controlling a human-shaped robotic system.
AI & Secondary Development
Use supported development environments and onboard computing to investigate AI-driven robotic behaviors and advanced programming.
Programming
Develop robotics applications through high-level and low-level development supported by Stokes educational configurations.
Machine Perception
Explore how cameras, sensors, and computing systems allow humanoid robots to interpret and respond to their surroundings.
Dexterous Manipulation
Advanced configurations add force-controlled or tactile robotic hands for grasping, object interaction, and manipulation research.
Research & Real-World Applications
Use humanoid robotics to investigate advanced applications in automation, AI, research, human-robot interaction, and emerging technologies.
Stokes offers multiple GiGi education configurations so programs can select the level of computing, control, and manipulation that best supports their instructional or research goals.
GiGi Basic
Provides the core humanoid platform for programs focused on robot operation, motion, and introductory development.
GiGi Edu
Education configurations add enhanced development capabilities and support for secondary development. Depending on the selected configuration, GiGi can include upgraded onboard computing, expanded joint capabilities, and additional technical support resources.
GiGi with Dexterous Hands
Advanced education configurations are available with robotic hands for manipulation projects. Options include force-controlled three-finger hands and five-finger dexterous hands, with tactile sensing available on select configurations.
Available configurations vary in total degrees of freedom and manipulation capability. Stokes currently offers GiGi education versions ranging from approximately 23 degrees of freedom to advanced configurations with more than 40 degrees of freedom.
GiGi education configurations are designed to support secondary development and advanced robotics projects. Students can explore both high-level application development and lower-level robotic control depending on the selected configuration and instructional goals.
- AI-oriented secondary development
- High-level robotic application development
- Low-level control development on supported configurations
- Motion and joint-control experimentation
- Integration of perception, control, and robotic behavior
- Development manuals and technical support resources
Some GiGi education configurations include enhanced onboard computing designed to support AI algorithms and advanced development activities.
Humanoid robotics introduces students to challenges that differ from wheeled or quadruped robots. GiGi provides a platform for exploring coordinated multi-joint movement, balance, manipulation, and physical interaction with the environment.
- Whole-body coordinated motion
- Multi-joint control
- Balance and locomotion concepts
- Arm and hand manipulation
- Force-controlled manipulation on supported configurations
- Tactile sensing on select dexterous-hand configurations
Advanced GiGi configurations can include three-finger or five-finger dexterous hands, allowing students and researchers to investigate grasping and object manipulation.
