AM400

Flexible additive manufacturing for professional use in a wide range of metals.
Additive Manufacturing

The Renishaw AM 400 is the latest development of the Renishaw AM250 platform. It features the most recent system updates including a larger SafeChange™ filter, improved optical control software, revised gas flow and window protection system and a new 400 W optical system which gives a reduced beam diameter of 70 µm. The system build volume is 250 mm × 250 mm × 300 mm.

Existing 200 Watt material files for the AM250 system are directly transferable to the AM 400.

AM 400 is equipped with the features of the existing AM250, such as open materials parameters, small factory footprint, class leading inert atmosphere and low gas usage, with the added advantage of the PlusPac upgrade as standard.

Flexible material use and ease of changeover

The AM 400 features an external powder hopper with valve interlocks to allow additional material to be added whilst the process is running. It is possible to remove the hopper for cleaning or to exchange with a secondary hopper for materials change, using the universal silo lift. This means that multiple material types can be interchanged on the AM 400 platform with relative ease. The powder overflow containers are outside the chamber and have isolation valves so that unused materials can be sieved and reintroduced to the process via the hopper while the system is running.

Laser Melting (Metal 3D Printing) Systems Software

Accurately create slices and laser paths for export directly to Renishaw metal additive manufacturing systems.

Open Material Parameters Different metals have unique melting properties so Renishaw software has an added benefit of providing the user with the freedom to optimise machine settings to suit the material and geometries being processed.

Control software – Renishaw Optical Control System (OCS). Renishaw's OCS is a dedicated software module used to control the optical functions of our AM systems. Developed using Renishaw's in-house software engineering it provides a fully integrated system to control laser steering, enhancing precision, feature definition, and surface finish.

Software: QuantumAM

A dedicated file preparation software tool for Renishaw additive manufacturing (AM) systems

With an intuitive workflow and easy navigation, QuantAM accepts CAD exports in the form of .STL data and allows you to prepare your model for the AM process.

QuantAM is designed specifically for Renishaw AM platforms, allowing tighter integration into the machine control software and the ability to accurately and rapidly review all build files for Renishaw AM systems, including those from third party packages.

QuantAM can also be used as a tool to guide your Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) process, helping you unlock the benefits of AM.

Key features:

  • .STL geometry import
  • Part orientation
  • Add support structures
  • Material development module with .CSV data import for materials development arrays
  • Copy and edit material files
  • Duplicate, orientate and position multiple parts
  • Rapidly review your geometry and laser tool path slice-by-slice
  • Review discrete laser exposures within each slice

Software: Magics

Efficient build preparation follows a step-by-step process:

  • Export from CAD 3D model into .stl format.
  • Import .stl (or optionally native CAD), healing function to aid file conversion.
  • Orientate the part and apply the supports required to anchor the build.
  • Select pre-defined process parameters or edit to suit particular alloys and part geometries.
  • Generate two dimensional layers and tool path, for export to the additive manufacturing system.

The Renishaw Build Processor provides a highly flexible platform with a user friendly interface. Users can use pre-determined parameters so the build can be prepared in a few steps. Equally, users may control up to 170 parameters, in keeping with Renishaw's ethos of open source parameters.

  • Renishaw's extensive process knowledge combined with industry standard Magics' powerful software.
  • Highly flexible platform with the ability to control up to 170 parameters.
  • User friendly interface: using predetermined parameters the build can be prepared in a few simple steps.
  • Enhances the capabilities of Renishaw AM systems.

Support Renishaw also offer Materialise's annual maintenance package which includes technical support, training and access to the latest software upgrades.

Upgrades and additional functionality Further upgrades are available, for example advanced support generation, direct CAD file import and advanced lattice structures.

Metal Powders

Renishaw offer a comprehensive range of metal powders for use with its metal additive manufacturing systems.

Renishaw high quality metal powders For optimum performance of Renishaw advanced metal additive manufacturing systems Renishaw recommends use of its extensively researched and tested range of metal powders.

All metal powders have been tested to ensure a high quality for reliable and consistent system parameters. Renishaw are also developing parameters for new metal alloy powders and are members of the ASTM International (formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials) forum developing standards for metal powders for use in additive manufacturing.

Materials research and development Renishaw have a continuous and well resourced research and development program designed to reveal new classes of materials for application in key areas of industry and are contributors to the Accelerated Metallurgy project.

The company is also part of an ASTM International (formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials) forum working towards powder standardisation and specification, specifically for use in additive manufacturing applications.
